Mercury Awards recognize excellence and creative accomplishment at the state level in tourism marketing and promotion, and for inspiring the continued development of exciting destination marketing and promotion programs.  The award for Special Projects celebrated the work of Travel Oregon’s Global Marketing to prepare visitors and Oregonians for a safe and enjoyable eclipse experience, and to inspire visitors to return to Oregon again and again while also preserving this place we call home. Travel Oregon collaborated with more than 60 state, county, municipal, federal, tribal and nonprofit partners to successfully align our messaging:
  • Keep Oregon moving: Arrive early, stay put, leave late
  • Keep yourself healthy: Stay cool, stay hydrated, stay informed
  • Keep yourself safe: No campfires, no fireworks, carry a first aid kit
  • Keep Oregon safe: See something, say something

The International Marketing award honored the work of the Global Sales team for the Oregon Road Rally, a collaborative effort between Travel Oregon and partners throughout the state. The Oregon Road Rally is a seven-day, six-night multi-nation familiarization road trip. The trip is designed to inspire tour operators and media from Germany, France, UK, Ireland, China, Australia, The Netherlands, New Zealand, Canada, Denmark and Norway to add Oregon to their list of bookable destinations and story ideas. The rally resulted in 16 articles published in six international outlets, inspiring travel to Oregon from across the world.  "Earning these Mercury Awards is a testament to the exceptional collaboration between Travel Oregon’s staff and our partners," said Todd Davidson, CEO of Travel Oregon. “Effective programs like the Oregon Road Rally have contributed to an increase in international spending of more than 7 percent last year alone, which has enhanced local economies and contributed to job growth throughout the state.”   “The multi-agency eclipse work was a demonstration of the power of partnerships,” Davidson continued. “This recognition is proof that when we are able to work together for the greater good of Oregon with singular vision and aligned messaging, we can achieve tremendous things and will help drive the tourism economy, an $11.8 billion industry that employs more than 112,000 Oregonians.”       Travel Oregon has been honored with 22 Mercury Awards since 1997. This year, the awards were judged by a panel of industry leaders from companies including JPMorgan Chase, Rich Media Exchange and Hylink North America.  Congratulations to Travel Portland for earning two Destiny Awards: Branding and Integrated Marketing Campaign category and for International Marketing.  To see all awardees, visit ustravel.org.
