6 Local Teens to Represent USA YMCAs
MEMBER FYI
Medford, Oregon, April 2019 –The Rogue Valley Family YMCA is excited to share and congratulate our 6 local teen leaders (Caitlyn, Emilio, Felicity, Kayla, Maizy and Riley) that were selected to represent the USA YMCAs in London, England in August 2019. These teens were selected because of their commitment to making a difference here in the Rogue Valley. Each teen has given their time working with younger children in the YMCAs youth programs and will serve this summer as camp counselors.
As a part of this leadership experience they have committed to 18 months of service to the community and they plan to launch a program to help address increased awareness and resources for youth mental health in the Rogue Valley when they return from London. While in London they will explore what other youth are doing in their communities and hope to gain new ideas and experiences that they can bring home to the Rogue Valley.
The YMCA175 event will be hosted during the YMCA’s landmark 175th anniversary year, returning to London – it’s founding city – and create a global opportunity to celebrate and harness the energy, creative vision and solution-focused approach of young leaders. YMCA175 will be a unique four-day event at ExCeL London from August 4-8, 2019, connecting thousands of inspiring young leaders from around the world to share their vision and personal experiences of social transformation to shape a positive and sustainable future for the world. When the YMCA was founded in 1844, the vision of a 22 year old young man, George Williams, grew to become the world’s largest and oldest youth movement. Nearly 175 years later, the YMCA is now operating in 119 countries, with 64 million people reached annually around the world.
In order to make this trip a reality the teens are working to raise $29,000 to cover the cost of the trip and to help launch their project when they return. As of the end of March 2019 they have raised $22,000 and are working to raise the last $7,000. You can help support them by making a donation that will not just impact these six leaders but the youth they are supporting. Contact the YMCA to learn more.
