In the spring of 1976, I attended my first Chamber Greeters Meeting. The meeting was located at Pietro’s Pizza Parlor on the corner of Stevens and Biddle. At that time, meetings were “live-on-air” promotion of your business with the radio station KMED. The premise was the same-30 second commercial of your business and then you passed the microphone to the person next to you. Well, Pietro’s burned down, we no longer are “live-on-air” with any radio station BUT, after all these years the feeling is still the same – we are people doing business with people. A strong and loyal connection.
Being an active member of the Chamber was easy. One year I was a committee of “one” that planned, organized and successfully pulled off the 35th anniversary of our Chamber Greeters. That event was held at the Sandpiper on Barnett Road- now a vacant lot (are you sensing a theme here?) Invited were all the dignitaries of the city, the chamber and all past greeter co-hosts. Speaking of co-hosts, I, along with Vince Truax, co-hosted one year. We pulled off: Christmas Caroling to the Skilled Nursing Facilities and retirement communities with a bus load of greeters and the Ambassador/Greeting Convention. I was co-chair of the membership drive, chairperson of the annual Greeter/Ambassador Annual Picnic, a member of the President’s Club, member of the Greeter/Ambassador Convention Committee and Greeter of the Year.
In the community I was active as a board member for the American Red Cross, United Way, Children’s Miracle Network, Women’s Leadership, Soroptimist and Goodwill. Currently, I am a board member of the Oregon Tour & Travel Alliance, Southern Oregon Sports Commission and a Resident Support Volunteer at Celia’s House, a hospice house located in Medford. I am a member in good standing in the Central Point Rotary Club.
I am the mother of two intelligent, loving and beautiful, daughters, Virginia and Michele. The mother-in-law to two amazing men who are kind and loving to my daughters- Dave and Josh and the grandmother of two extremely smart and handsome grandsons, William and Eli.
And lastly, I am thrilled and honored to work for a company that is one of the best senior caregiving companies in Jackson, Josephine and Klamath Counties. Michelle Dunn, the owner, believes in what she does in bringing the best care to our seniors and their families. She offered me the position of Director of Client Care because she knows who I am as a person of empathy, love and integrity. This position also allows me the opportunity to continue to be actively involved in our community and with the Chamber. She knows too that it is all about “people doing business with people”.
