FORUM REVIEW
Rogue Disposal began their presentation with an impressive announcement: it’s their 80th year in business. To mark this momentous occasion, every Forum attendee was given a sugar cookie in the shape of the company’s iconic red garbage truck and business logo.

A family-owned business since its inception, Rogue Disposal remains steadfast in their unwavering commitment to their customers, employees and the community. Stephen Gambee, CEO of Rogue Disposal, is the grandson of Anthony Boitano, one of the co-founders. Gambee and three other speakers — Kristan Mitchell, Laura Leebrick and Garry Penning — discussed the past, present and future initiatives of Rogue Disposal. Rogue Disposal sees garbage as a positive part of our future.

One of their long-term goals is to provide a local source of energy created from garbage in the landfill. According to Gambee, methane gas is produced as organic matter at the Dry Creek Landfill decomposes. Rogue Disposal will eventually harness and convert the methane gas into renewable natural gas, which will power the trucks that pick up curbside garbage and recycling containers.

The result is a closed loop solid waste collection system — the first of its kind in the Pacific Northwest.
Renewable natural gas is up to 70% cleaner than gasoline and diesel, and can be used by anything that utilizes natural gas, including homes, businesses and vehicles.

Not only is renewable natural gas an environmentally-responsible choice for Rogue Disposal, it could also be used as a local fuel source for emergency services during a natural disaster.

Rogue Disposal has provided solid waste solutions in Southern Oregon since 1938, and they continue to think of new ideas that pave the way for innovation in their industry.
